The laundry products you should always have at home

you want to fill your laundry room for the first time, but you have no idea of which products to choose? Here are some tips for natural, effective and less expensive products that you should always have at your disposal for your laundry needs.

 Oxygen bleaching

Oxygen bleach is a stain remover that contains sodium percarbonate.

It is used with any water temperature and helps remove stains, brightens, and deodorizes all colors and white fabrics except silk, wool, and leather. When used in a good way, it de-stains any stubborn stain; here are some proper ways to use it:

For general cleaning: Mix two tablespoons of percarbonate in 1 liter of warm or hot water.

For intensive cleaning: mix four tablespoons of percarbonate in 1 liter of warm or hot water.

To whiten old laundry, deodorize and clean sneakers, or to get rid of yellow stains under the armpits of shirts: mix two tablespoons of sodium percarbonate with 4 liters of water, soak the object to be washed in the mixture, then let sit for at least an hour, or overnight and rinse.

 Baking soda

Here are some benefits of baking soda:

Baking soda acts not only as a stain remover but also helps whiten and brighten laundry and eliminates stubborn odors.

-Putting a cup of baking soda into a tub of water and soaking smelly clothes overnight can eliminate odors. Baking soda is less harsh on the environment than synthetic products.

-To remove a stain, mix 6 tablespoons of baking soda with 1/3 cup of warm water, rub it into the stain to remove it from the fabrics, then rinse the baking soda before you put the material in the washing machine.

-To whiten and brighten your clothes or fabrics, add baking soda to your washer; this will make white fabrics whiter and colored ones brighter.

 Distilled white vinegar

Distilled white vinegar is used not only for cooking but also for laundry. It softens, deodorizes fabric, and removes stains:

When you add half a cup of distilled white vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser, it acts as a fabric softener and keeps your machine smelling fresh and clean,

-To neutralize smoke, pets and sweat odors, or any other odors from your clothes, add 1/2 or 1 cup of vinegar to your laundry. It will deodorize your clothes.

Washing your Bedsheets to make them comfortable to use

Whether your sheets are made of combed cotton, flannel, linen, or silk, special attention is required in their maintenance. Washing the sheets and drying them in the best conditions is conducive to a healthy environment and helps preserve their quality and beautiful appearance. below are some tips on how to wash bed sheets

1- Check the label

When you buy your sheets, check the labels to ensure you don’t have any specific cleaning requirements. You can wash your sheets at home in your washing machine, but some specialty fabrics may require special attention or dry cleaning. Do not hesitate to contact Mr. Laundromat if you are in the possession of fabrics which require extra care and attention of an expert.

2- Equipment and materials needed

·   Washing machine

·   Oxygen bleach (If needed)

·   Gentle laundry detergent

·   Dryer

·   Iron

4- What is the recommended washing temperature to select when washing your sheets?

Proper care of your bed linen requires washing the sheets at an appropriate temperature. 60°, warm/hot cycle is the recommended temperature that can be used for most fabrics. This temperature it is recommended to remove dirt, sweat, body oils and any other germs, especially when dealing with cotton sheets; selecting the hottest cycle as listed on the instruction label is ideal for getting rid of dust mites and other gunk.

5- Frequency of washing sheets

It is essential to change your bedsheets regularly because many bacteria can develop there quite quickly. Waiting too long before changing your sheets can lead to exposure to health issues such as allergies and skin irritations.

The ideal is to carry out laundry once a week, especially in the summer when perspiration is frequent. Washing your bed linens regularly helps eliminate bacteria. This avoids possible skin irritations and allergic manifestation.

You can consider washing the sheets once every 15 days if you shower at the end of the day. This recommendation is valid for all your bed linen.

 6- The Drying process

Knowing that sunshine is a natural disinfectant, it’s Ideal to dry your sheets in open air; it also helps preserve the quality of your sheets. Depending on the composition of your sheets, the dryer can be a solution if you do not have the necessary space or live in an area where there is not much sunlight.

Please remember to look at the care label to ensure proper drying process depending on the type of sheets you have.

How to clean and care for your suit to keep it in good shape and make it last longer

A suit requires more attention than a t-shirt or jeans. In fact, if you adhere to the following little tips, the result will be quick and effective. Moreover, if you take the maintenance of your suit seriously, it will save you money overtime because proper maintenance will make your suit look sharp and last longer.

Tip1: Brush it down after each use

Even if you just sit in your office all day, your suit collects dirt and dust. If you don’t do anything about it, this dirt will sink into the fibers of your suit, and the fabric can peel off and /or lose its quality over time.

We suggest you purchase a brush with soft bristles made from natural animal hair (as opposed to synthetic materials) for they are less coarse. Brush the suit in the same way you shave, with quick downward strokes. Start at the shoulders and work down to the rest of the suit.

If your costume picked up lint or hair during the day, go over it with a lint roller too.

Tip2: Spot clean with a damp cloth

No matter how careful we can be, stains are inevitable. Don’t waste too much time when you slop food or wine on your suit.

  • Dab the spot with a damp cloth. If you can’t remove the stain after a few tries, hand it over to the professionals, Mr. Laundromat is there to handle all your laundry needs.

Tip3:  Hang it on thick wooden hangers

Do you know why people use wooden suit hangers? The wood helps absorb any moisture built up in the canvas and lining of your suit. Moisture can wear down the delicate fibers of your suit, which is one reason to get rid of the wire hangers you get from the dry cleaners.

Here’s another certainty: wire hangers can damage your suit. A wide wooden hanger with rounded borders will support shoulder pads, smooth out wrinkles, and help your suit retain its shape; sturdy plastic hangers are acceptable too.

Tip4: Rotate your suits

Avoid wearing your suit every day to make it last longer. Wear your suit twice a week at a maximum, to give the fibers time to rest and relax. Just like your muscles after an intense workout, your suit needs a little repose. The general rule is 24 hours for lighter suits and 48 hours for heavier suits. Before stashing your suit in the wardrobe, follow these instructions:

brush it, dab it, hang it, and bag it. If you’ve been wearing it in a smoky or smelly environment, hang it up outside for a few hours to air out any odors.

Caution: Here are some habits to avoid in order to make your suits last longer.

  • Never throw your suit into the washing machine. It’ll lose its shape. (Dry cleaning twice a year is sufficient for a suit worn once or twice a week; because this cleaning is very aggressive for the fabric and to impose it more often would reduce its life expectancy)
  • Don’t sling your suit over your office chair, either. Keep an extra coat hanger at work to maintain your suit’s silhouette.

HOW TO REMOVE AN OLD DRIED RED WINE STAIN (Part 2)

Last month, we started  sharing some tips on red wine stains removal. These are just tips, if you choose to try them, it will be at your own risk, especially if you do it wrongly. However, it is advised to always let a professional take care of those stains for you, mainly when your clothes are costly.  Don’t ruin them by using  the tips shared above for  trial purposes only. Below are few more suggestions:

  • Another method is the mixture of Hydrogen Peroxide and Dish Soap

None of the ingredients work well alone, but together they are the most used method for removing dried red wine stains.

Pour hydrogen peroxide and liquid dish soap into a bowl and mix them. You can use one part dish detergent and two parts hydrogen peroxide if you want to get a more potent mixture.

Before applying the soap and peroxide mixture,

Place a towel inside the fabric to prevent the stain from spreading into it and allow the towel to absorb the stain

Next:

  • Pour a small amount of the soap and peroxide solution onto the stain. Massage the mixture into the stained area with your fingertips and work inward from the outside of the stain to the center in order to prevent it from spreading.

But if you don’t want to use your fingertips to massage the stain you can dab it instead.

  • Pour the soap and peroxide solution onto a clean towel, then firmly dab the stain with the towel.

Let the soap and peroxide soak into the fabric for 30 minutes. Make sure the stain is completely saturated with the mixture. Let the fabric sit for at least 30 minutes before trying to wash off the soap.

Rinse the fabric with lukewarm water:

Fill a bowl with lukewarm water, then let the fabric soak. Make sure  it is completely saturated with water. Try running the stain under a hot faucet.

Soak the stain in hot water :

Put the fabric in hot water, then let it soak for one hour. A washing machine with a soak cycle can also help.

Do not add laundry soap! The fabric should still contain a mixture of soap and peroxide.

Rinse the fabric in cold water. After it has soaked in warm to lukewarm water for an hour, rinse it with cold water. If you don’t want to rinse by hand, you can run a washing machine cycle on cold. Do not add laundry soap.

Hang dry. Do not use a dryer, especially if the fabric is 100% cotton! High heat can significantly shrink damp cotton. If the red wine stain remains, do not hesitate to repeat the process.
